MODULE 2-FLATNESS VS. PROJECTION

In M2, we are required to select and reorganize the elements from the given drawings and use these elements to create a 3D world on the base of using the skills of setting up axonometric drawings which we’ve learned from M1.

Anatomy

Asset 1.jpg

In the drawings I’ve been allocated with, bricks are the main characters. To make the two projections coherent, I chose the small bricks, and the large wall-like colored bricks in the back of the images as the main character of my hidden space.

Setting up Mario Axo

Without the use of pipes, cactus or trees, I can create a sense of hard horizontals and verticals of the solid geometry. In the hidden space, I use many equidistantly laid brick groups, applying changes in height or size. This kind of relatively flexible repeated combination of basic shapes can create a sense of order, while adding the alteration of colors and size can make the whole image not that rigid, and this is also achieved by the use of hollow bricks.

Reflection from Studio and Supercrit:

The color of the bricks is too dull to show the edges and corners on the side, the gradient is too bright and brings too much contrast to the whole image, the elements below the water level are shambolic and could be added administrative levels. The clouds are to some extents strange in the whole compound.

As for the colors used in my work, the primary colors of the large bricks are blue, orange and green, these colors contrast with each other and hence increase the saturation. In order to make the 3D effect, I gradient the color blocks. At the edges where the lights meet darkness, the dark side is the darkest, the bright side is the brightest, and then the color gradually becomes soft when going away from the junction. I also used four different colors for the sides of the small bricks to show the humps, and reorganized the order of the bricks below the water level.
