ASSIGNMENT 7

CHANNEL YOUR INNER EGGLESTON

This assignment is all about slowing down and paying attention to your environment. This is an exercise in seeing that requires patience and imagination to see the potential in the unremarkable. I often find this kind of exercise to be quite meditative, especially when you're walking and really paying attention to your steps, the sounds etc.

REFLECTION:

This task reminds me that in primary school teachers always told us "Seek Knowlege by paying attention to everywhere in life", when you slow down the pace, starting to observe every little component, same streets start to feel different and intriguing. Every light, every leaf, every brick can be the right subject in a variety of compositions.

For this task, flexible adjustments of the camera settings are needed because the lighting condition is quite different between shooting up and down, I need to make it a bit underexposed when shooting upwards; the lighting condition is different on both sides of the street as well, especially on sunny days, one side of the street is always in shadow. Also, the aperture settings need to be altered depending on how detailed the ideal image is, it needs to be opened up a little when shooting close-ups.

Also, good suggestion by not doing this with a friend who is a little fast-paced, the first time I was trying to do this task, my friend became more and more impatient and confused because I wanted to shoot almost everything (I guess it's my bad :( ), thus I did not get the all the photos I want the first time. So, I tried again in the morning, and fortunately the light is lovely.
